United Therapeutics Bioprocess Specialist in Durham, North Carolina

The Job Details are as follows:

Position Overview:

Conduct and assist in research efforts to develop novel cell and cell-based products for treating pulmonary hypertension and other lung diseases.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

  • Routinely perform large-scale primary lung cell culture in 2D and 3D to support process development activities for a tissue engineered product

  • Assist with generation and maintenance of all master and working cell banks

  • Routinely perform media formulation in accordance to defined protocols

  • Optimize and conduct process development studies to improve yield, purity, and quality of primary lung cell types such as vascular, airway, and mesenchymal

  • Routinely perform bioanalytical assays to phenotypically and functionally characterize cells (such as flow cytometry, IHC, protein analysis)

  • Author laboratory procedures and protocols for the production and analysis of primary lung cells

  • Follow prescribed laboratory methods and protocols under GLP/GMP-like conditions

  • Record laboratory data in the in-house data management system(s)

  • Present and discuss data with laboratory staff and program leaders

  • Oversee training of new employees, track training requirements for team members ensuring appropriate training is completed

  • Assist in troubleshooting of problems in the laboratory. Devise solutions to overcome technical issues

  • Assist supervisor with day-to-day activities

  • Participate in or lead the evaluation of new manufacturing technologies

  • Generate technical reports

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology, or Biomedical Sciences

  • 5+ years of post-baccalaureate experience in Biology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, or Biomedical Sciences

  • 3+ years’ experience with mammalian cell culture, aseptic technique, flow cytometry

  • 3+ years’ experience in molecular assays, cellular assays, and fluorescence microscopy

  • cGMP experience preferable

  • Facility with appropriate word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and related standard software. Experience with laboratory instrumentation and data software
