United Therapeutics Post Doctoral / Associate Scientist in Durham, North Carolina

The Job Details are as follows:

Position Overview:

Conduct and assist in research efforts to develop tissue-based regenerative medicine products for the treatment of pulmonary hypertension and other lung diseases.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

  • Independently and collaboratively design and execute studies designed to develop functional tissue engineered products; Efforts will require tissue handling and dissection, bioreactor systems and chambers, seeding cells in 2D and 3D tissue structures, culturing engineered tissues, and analyzing resulting outcomes

  • Quantitatively devise novel strategies in support of our overall tissue engineering goals

  • Independently collect and analyze data from tissue engineering experiments

  • Perform cell culture studies to support tissue engineering studies

  • Prepare cells for experimentation, including cell labeling for cell tracking studies

  • Perform maintenance, cleaning, sterilization, and set-up of bioreactors for tissue engineering studies

  • Independently and collaboratively develop and execute molecular and cellular assays to evaluate cell phenotype and function, including metabolic assays, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and Western blot

  • Contribute to the design of bioreactor chambers and control systems

  • Contribute to the design of insightful laboratory experiments to address the scientific and technical challenges at hand

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of GLP/GMP protocols for establishing robust processes

  • Record all laboratory data in the in-house data management system(s)

  • Record and manage use of materials and reagents needed to carry out experiments

  • Follow proper procedures regarding laboratory safety, use of personal protective equipment, and handling of biohazard materials, including human or animal cells and tissues

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in life science, cell biology, cell physiology, biomedical engineering, or other biomedical science

  • Post-doctoral training in life science, bioengineering, or biomedical research preferred

  • Vascular biology and/or pulmonary physiology knowledge strongly preferred

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Highly self-motivated

  • Ability to independently follow experimental methods and protocols

  • Excellent team skills; must work well with others

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to initiate and manage day-to-day tasks effectively

  • Ability to analyze, organize, and present data
