United Therapeutics Research Associate - Tissue Engineering in Durham, North Carolina

The Job Details are as follows:

Position Overview:

Conduct and assist in research efforts to develop tissue-based regenerative medicine products for the treatment of pulmonary hypertension and other lung diseases.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

  • Prepare lung scaffolds for tissue engineering experiments, cannulate and load scaffolds into bioreactor chambers, and seed scaffolds with pulmonary cells

  • Perform cell culture activities to support tissue engineering studies

  • Prepare cells for experimentation, including cell labeling for cell tracking studies

  • Perform cell characterization studies, including viability assessments, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and histological staining

  • Perform maintenance, cleaning, sterilization, and set-up of bioreactors for tissue engineering studies

  • Perform molecular biology assays to evaluate cell phenotype, including metabolic assays, ELISA, and Western blot

  • Follow prescribed laboratory methods and protocols under GLP/GMP-like conditions

  • Record all laboratory data in the in-house data management system(s)

  • Record and manage use of materials and reagents needed to carry out experiments

  • Follow proper procedures regarding laboratory safety, use of personal protective equipment, and handling of biohazard materials, including human or animal cells and tissues

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in life science, engineering, or biomedical science

  • 1-2 years of post-baccalaureate experience in life science, bioengineering, or biomedical research preferred

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Facility with appropriate word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and related standard software. Experience with laboratory instrumentation and data software

  • Good team member skills; must work well with others

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to initiate and manage day-to-day tasks effectively

  • Ability to organize and present data

  • Ability to independently follow experimental methods and protocols

  • Highly self-motivated
