United Therapeutics Research Technician - Lung Function in Durham, North Carolina

The Job Details are as follows:

Evaluate the function of engineered lung tissues and assist with implementation of new analytical regimes to characterize the function of engineered lung tissues.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

  • Perform lung analytical testing procedures and analyze resulting data

  • Construct purpose-built bioreactor and tubing sets for use in testing lung function

  • Prepare all necessary supplies for lung analytical testing procedures

  • Critically evaluate research findings and design insightful experiments to address research questions

  • Dissect and cannulate lung tissue to enable perfusion and ventilation of lungs

  • Collate, analyze, and record all data and findings promptly upon completion of experimental studies

  • Periodically conduct literature searches to support research directions

  • Periodically present data to team members and laboratory management to ensure goals are being met and that research direction is effective

  • Follow prescribed laboratory methods and protocols

  • Routinely operate bioreactors and fluid handling systems

  • Record all laboratory data in the in-house data management system(s)

  • Record and manage use of materials and reagents needed to carry out experiments

  • Follow proper procedures regarding laboratory safety, use of personal protective equipment, and handling of biohazard materials, including human or animal cells and tissues

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in life science, engineering, or biomedical science

  • At least one year of biological or biomedical engineering research; this can include undergraduate research experience

  • Knowledge of aseptic technique and basic lab skills experience

  • Tissue handling and dissection experience

  • Facility with appropriate word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and related standard software

  • Experience with laboratory instrumentation and data software

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with Python, R, and/or Matlab strongly preferred

  • Good team member skills; must work well with others

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to initiate and manage day-to-day tasks effectively

  • Ability to organize and present data

  • Ability to independently follow experimental methods and protocols

  • Highly self-motivated
