How you’ll contribute

Overview

Our Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team is looking for a Senior EHS Engineer to join the team. In this role, you will address highly complex and diverse issues that focus on implementing, maintaining, and monitoring the compliance of environmental, health, and safety objectives to ensure United Therapeutics remains a safe place to work and is environmentally responsible with sustainable practices. You will also help establish and maintain EHS policies, programs, and operational procedures that ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and corporate standards. Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities

  • Oversees assigned UT EHS programs and provide collaborative leadership for UT locations on areas of technical expertise

  • Significant and proven technical expertise for environmental compliance and sustainability practices including wastewater, hazardous waste, air quality, hazardous materials management, and chemical reporting

  • Significant and proven technical expertise for health and safety compliance including injury and illness prevention, hazardous materials handling, hazardous energy control, occupational exposure limits, high potent compounds, product stewardship, biosafety, radiation safety, laboratory safety, personal protective equipment assessments, fall protection, and emergency preparedness and response

  • Act as a catalyst to move EHS program implementation corporate-wide and drive continuous improvement and sustainability practices and develop EHS training as and where needed

  • Oversee projects requiring in-depth evaluation using complex methods and coordination of internal and external stakeholders knowledge of EHS principles, practices, and regulatory requirements

  • Support business growth by assessing new projects and processes for EHS impact when risks are assessed using inferences where specific data is unavailable

  • Complete chemical reporting and community right-to-know submittals

  • Develop engineering and work practice controls for hazards such as high potent compounds, hazardous energy, flammable liquids, and fall protection

  • Develop and implement contractor safety protocols

  • Conduct program audits and inspections, make recommendations through written technical reports, effectively communicate findings and close out audit reports

  • Establishes training meetings and alternative training methods

  • Maintain site EHS records

  • Review and analyze hazard evaluations of jobs, processes and PPE assessments, and perform routine inspections of facilities, operations, and equipment

  • Conduct incident investigations with effective root cause analysis and corrective actions identified and tracked to completion

  • Develop crisis management planning and implement emergency planning and drills

  • Response planning for emergency situations such as injuries, illnesses, and chemical spills, during business hours as well as after-hours and/or on weekends

  • Oversee EHS contract services including hazards waste and emergency services

  • Provide EHS support to other locations on areas of technical expertise

  • Assist in maintaining and conforming to the site EHS budget

  • Travel as needed (less than 10%) to other site locations

  • Support other duties as assigned

For this role you will need

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Sciences, Environmental, Health, and Safety or related technical discipline

  • 9+ years of experience in EHS with an emphasis in Occupational Health, Environmental Compliance, and Sustainability as well as Safety Engineering

  • 8+ years of experience in chemical, life sciences, pharmaceutical or another related field

  • Proficiency in federal, state and local regulations with the ability to interpret regulatory issues and provide a recommended action plan

  • Experience interacting with regulatory agencies

  • Implementing and monitoring EHS management systems and related global industry standards

  • Developing and tracking EHS metrics

Proficiency in MS Office software programs and other job specific software

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)

  • Project Management Professional (PMP)

EHS auditing experience a plus

5+ years of experience working in a GMP manufacturing environment

5+ years of experience in an FDA regulated environment
